Exmouth's newest business is aiming to become the town's 'one-stop-dog-shop'.

K9 Clark opened at the end of June and is a 'dream come true' for owner and former Exeter City Council Officer Haley Clark, 41.

After ten years at ECC, Haley fancied doing something different. In December last year Haley started a dog walking service alongside her council work. She then began a trade stall which she would take to charity events, donating some of the profits to local animal charities.

It was the confidence she gained from the dog walking and the trade stall that persuaded her to take a chance on a new business.

"It's been scary but satisfying. It's given me a new lease of life and put a spring in my step. Opening the shop is a dream come true," said Haley.

"The whole process has been a whirlwind. This was a cafe before we took over, in three weeks we cleaned it, renovated it and opened.

"It's been very much a family affair. My son and husband helped me in the evenings and my sister and nieces took on the marketing side of things. My two daughters were down here helping me with the shop and with marketing. We're all on the same journey together."

K9 Clark offers a variety of grooming services, including full grooms, hand stripping, bath and pamper sessions, nail clipping, ear cleaning, anal glands and teeth cleaning.

The shop also stocks all your summer canine essentials, including cooling mats, cooling jackets, portable water bottles and Long Paw water bottles.

"We've had lots of support from other shops on Exeter Road," said Haley.

"I think everyone really enjoyed the process. I know a lot of locals really enjoyed seeing the transformation. It was great to share the excitement with others."

Haley, a self-confessed 'country girl', grew up on a farm and has always had dogs, her current canine companion is a two-year-old Labrador called Dexter.

If you would like to try a new grooming service or need to stock up on some dog accessories Haley has this to say to you: "Come on in, we offer grooming to all dogs. If you've got a nervous pooch let us know and we can arrange a private session."

The shop is still in the process of stocking up, customers can be assured that very soon healthy dog food and a wider range of harnesses and leads will be available.
