Local restaurant raises more than £2.8k for Exmouth RNLI
A local restaurant raised more than £2.8k for Exmouth RNLI in 2021, the charity has said.
The funds raised by the Point Bar & Grill, £2,827.82 in total, have gone towards kit for new crew member Nick Wright and will help pay for training.
The restaurant ran two campaigns. The first saw it pledge £1 to the RNLI for every fish and chip meal bought from 17 May, and by the end of August it had raised £2,184. The second was its RNLI Charity Fish Supper held on 25 November, which raised £643.82.
New Exmouth RNLI Crew Member Nick Wright, who joined in March 2021, has just received his specialist dry suit kit worth £800. He is also in training for operations.
He said: "On behalf of the crew and volunteers at Exmouth RNLI Lifeboat Station, I must thank the owners and staff at the Point Bar and Grill for their incredible efforts in raising such an amazing sum for us at what was a very difficult time for all businesses, and to their customers who gave their support.
"I am the first to benefit from this donation and I know some of the remainder is earmarked for sea survival courses and important station based training that, on average, costs £1400 overall per crew member."
