East Devon District Council is asking residents to be aware that some 'plastic' items are not suitable for recycling.

Items that look like plastic or contain film may seem appropriate to put in the recycling bin, but in fact the council is unable to recycle them and they contaminate other materials.

A spokesperson said: "Please do not put the following in your recycling sack as we are unable to recycle them: polystyrene, bubble wrap, pill casings, crisp packets, shrink wrapping, confectionary wrappers, carrier bags, or cling film.

"Put these items in your waste bin and we will recover energy from them."

Residents are also being asked to be patient with cardboard collections due to a rise in home deliveries.
