Police believe an explosion and fire at a property in Exmouth may have been caused by an 'accident' involving lighter fluid.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and a Devon Air Ambulance were called to Hartley Road in Exmouth at around 9.40am on Friday (June 26) after reports of an explosion.

One man was taken to hospital to be treated for burns to his skin. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Nub News today: "The fire is believed to be a result of the man setting himself on fire after an accident with lighter fluid.

"One man suffered serious burns and remains in a critical but stable condition. He has therefore yet to be spoken to by investigating officers, and therefore this matter will remain under investigation at this time."
