A new organic vegetable box service has been started to serve customers in Exmouth.

Barton Lane Boxes was launched earlier this week and the business' owner, Martyn Bragg, is hoping the scheme will make good quality organic vegetables affordable for families in the town.

Barton Farm, on the outskirts of Exeter, has been producing organic vegetables for the past 20 years and now Martyn wants to share is tasty veg with Exmouth.

"The idea is to be able to produce good quality organic vegetables and make them as affordable as possible, making it easier for people to enjoy good veg," said Martyn.

"I don't want organic veg to be the reserve of richer people, we believe everyone should have access to tasty organic vegetables without paying a fortune.

"The green leafy vegetables will be picked that day so flavour is retained and the nutrient level remains high."

Martyn added: "We're much more affordable than supermarkets and other veg box schemes, so it's good for your bank balance too."

Barton Lane Boxes aims to keep its prices affordable by using minimal packaging and branding and only supplying Exmouth in order to keep food miles low.

The farm is organically certified, meaning the farm does not use pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilisers.

"We also take special land-management measures which have many environmental benefits, including: improving soil health and fertility; mitigating against the effects of climate change such as drought and flooding; and creating a haven for bees, birds, butterflies and other wildlife," said Martyn.
