Outgoing Exmouth Mayor thanks community for support

I have had the honour, privilege and pleasure to serve Exmouth Town Council as its Chairman and to serve the residents of Exmouth as its Mayor during the past year. I have been ably supported by my wife Sue, Deputy Mayor Bruce De Saram and Town Crier Roger Bourgein.

Throughout the year we have worked hard for the residents, businesses and visitors to the town. This was achieved, in Royal Marine fashion, by leading from the front, talking to and reacting on views received.

The town's businesses have also contributed as their knowledge, experience and encouraging support has provided much needed employment, finance and business which is key to the success of Exmouth as a whole.

We have managed to bring together Devon County, East Devon District and Exmouth Town Councils regarding street maintenance. Our army of volunteers has also contributed to improve its appearance which has been recognised as one of six improving and up and coming sea-side towns in the UK.

Throughout the year, Sue and I have attended 149 events, presentations and community meetings. We have also managed to raise £8,090 which has been equally shared between SSAFA and Royal Marines Charities, who provide much needed assistance to our Serving and Veteran members and Families of our Armed Forces.

As Chairman of the town council I have been working hard with the council, across party lines, to agree its annual budget (including the town's precept), CCTV acquisition, the Neighbourhood plan and many more town projects. It is my hope that this continues for the benefit of all residents and visitors to Exmouth.

What does the future hold for me? As one of three Devon County Councillors within Exmouth Rural and Coastal Divisions I/we will endeavour to continue to provide assistance and support locally.

My sincere thanks to my wife Sue, family and friends, councillors and town staff and importantly the groups and communities who have supported me throughout the year.
