A planning application to demolish Exmouth pub The Beacon Vaults and build two houses in its place has been submitted to East Devon District Council.

The proposed development would see all buildings on the site demolished and the construction of a pair of identical four-storey five-bed "Georgian" town houses.

The existing building is reportedly "in very poor condition" and is "beyond financially viable repair".

According to the planning documents, The Beacon Vaults itself is not a listed property, and the current building was "developed in around 1930 with a mock-Tudor façade and significant non-traditional alterations".

The new houses would have off-street parking to the rear.

The application is currently awaiting a decision from the district council.
