Police have announced that they will increase patrols after a spate of recent bicycle thefts in Exmouth.

The incidents reportedly took place outside the LED Leisure Centre and the M&S Foodhall near the railway station.

CCTV footage of a particular suspect has been seized, and police have warned that electric bikes are a "very popular target" and recommended the use of "substantial" chains or D-locks to help prevent thefts.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "There has been a spate of bicycle thefts from outside the LED and Marks & Spencer over the past two weeks.

"Electric bikes are a very popular target. The Neighbourhood Team have seized CCTV footage of the suspect and will be increasing patrols in the area.

"It also appears that thieves are able to cut through many chain and cable locks. We recommend that owners always lock their bikes to a fixed post using a substantial chain or D-lock."
