The other Exmouth: What's life like in Exmouth, Australia?

But did you know that there's another Exmouth, many thousands of miles away on the other side of the globe?
Exmouth, Western Australia
Exmouth 'Down Under' is located right here on the very tip of the North West Cape of Western Australia, almost 800 miles north of Perth and 2,000 miles southwest of Darwin (yes, Australia is huge - for comparison, John O'Groats at the very top of Scotland is just 700 miles away from us in the South West).
Apparently, the town was established in 1967 to provide housing and support for a US naval communication station - but nowadays it's more of a tourist hotspot, with the population more than doubling in the high season.
The town has a lot of campsites, places to snorkel, and a national park nearby.
This all sounds very familiar, particularly as Exmouth, Devon is a coastal town many people visit in the summer to enjoy the beach and take part in watersports such as kitesurfing and sailing.
We've even got Dartmoor National Park near us too, although the weather is a little different.
In Exmouth, Western Australia, the climate is hot and semi-arid, with temperatures often over 40 degrees in summer and 25 in winter.
Here in Devon, you'd be lucky to get a 25-degree day in summer, and in winter it drops down to around zero degrees (although it rarely freezes).
