The Exmouth Players will be hosting a new play that highlights "the pain of estrangement".
The Serpent's Tooth is a new play by award-winning writer, Heather Dunmore, throwing a spotlight on our new world of fractured families who encourage a lethal form of cancel culture and entitlement, which threatens to destroy a world where family is everything.
Cathy Turner from Another Theatre Company directs, bringing her own unique style of stark, stylised productions - not without humour - containing a strong message about the world we live in now. Cathy and Heather have worked together before in Blue (2002) and Faceless (2016). Cast members include National Theatre/Bristol Old Vic actor, Jenny Johns, and Karen Ford, known to many for Holby City and for seven years playing Grange Hill's art teacher, Miss Booth.
Being denied access to those you love cuts very deep. Such is their shame that sufferers rarely talk about it.
On reading the play, Janet Jackson, founder of Bristol Grandparents Support Group - whose Patron is Esther Rantzen - had this to say: "It's estimated that over two million grandparents are denied contact with their grandchildren which equates to over two million grandchildren. I hope this play will show the lifelong damage that can be done, not only to the grandparents but importantly to the grandchildren, who love everyone."
The Serpent's Tooth will be performed at The Blackmore Theatre Exmouth on 26 August.
