Tories will claim new Exmouth and Exeter East constituency at next election, poll predicts
The Conservative Party will win the new Exmouth and Exeter East constituency at the next general election, a poll has predicted.
The national 'multi-level regression and post-stratification' (MRP) poll of 10,102 voters on behalf of Best for Britain, an anti-Brexit campaign group, also suggests Labour will make considerable gains - including in North Devon, Central Devon and Newton Abbot.
MRP polls, which combine surveys with census data, correctly predicted the Conservatives losing Kensington and Canterbury to Labour in the 2017 general election.
Exmouth is currently in the East Devon constituency, which has been held by the Conservative Party since its creation. It also includes the towns of Sidmouth and Honiton.
Proposed to replace East Devon is the new Exmouth and East Exeter constituency, which will include Budleigh Salterton, Topsham, Clyst St Mary, Pinhoe, Poltimore and Whimple.
Honiton and Sidmouth would form another constituency, which Conservative East Devon MP Simon Jupp announced in February he would stand for at the next general election.
