A new butcher's shop will be opening in Exmouth tomorrow (September 28), so Nub News caught up with the owners Shawn King and Mark Pearce today to find out more.

Kings Butchers will replace the former Reynolds butcher's shop on Exeter Road and Shawn, Mark and their wives Lucy and Vickie have big plans for the new venture.

As well as offering a smorgasbord of top quality local meats the shop will sell a wide range of quality local produce such as cheeses, eggs, hams and a selection of breaded chicken options.

The Kings Butchers team also hopes to soon be able to offer a home to delivery service to the Exmouth and Exeter areas.

Shawn has worked as a butcher for 32 years both in retail butchery and in the catering industry.

"It's always been my dream to own my own shop, I've got over 30 years of experience and fancied doing something for myself," said Shawn.

"I'm 45, so it's now or never. In a funny way without the pandemic this probably wouldn't have happened. I was furloughed by my previous employer at the start of the lock down and was recently made redundant.

"That made me think about what I want to do with my future. I couldn't do it without Mark's support. Mark is a very successful businessman and I think our skills combined will put us in good stead for the future.

"I know Exmouth well, it's a lovely area. We're looking forward to offering the locals more choice and some different flavours."

Shawn added: "We're not changing the principles of a traditional butchers but we are hoping to offer more variety, flavours and excellent customer service."

Shawn is keen to point out that the shop will cater to all budgets, with a range of affordable produce alongside top quality meat from local suppliers.

The team at Kings Butchers have a good relationship with the former owner of the shop and have managed to keep on almost all of the former Reynolds staff. So you can expect to see some familiar faces behind the counter.

Shawn and the team have this message to potential customers in Exmouth: "Come in and give us a try. See what we have to offer, we're here to help our customers.

"We're looking forward to meeting you all. I'm sure once you use us once you will become regular customers."
