Exmouth beach has now reopened after a section near the Coastwatch tower was closed by police dealing with an unidentifiable object.

The discovery was made this morning at 9.30am, however military personnel have now given the all-clear.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Assessments by the Royal Navy EOD team have determined the object to be some sort of mechanical device and not explosive.

"The cordon was removed just before midday."
