UPDATE: Man left with 'serious head injuries' after reports of 'racially aggravated' assault in Exmouth

A man has sustained serious injuries after reports of a 'racially aggravated assault' at Exmouth Train Station last night and a glass bottle, believed to be linked to the assault, has been recovered.

Police are investigating reports of a racially aggravated assault after officers were called at 11.20pm to Exmouth railway station following reports that a man had been located on a carriage having sustained serious injuries to his head.

Police officers attended the scene where they were assisted by British Transport Police and the Ambulance service. It was further reported that the assault had taken place in the street prior to the train station and that the victim has been assaulted with a glass bottle. A bottle, believed to be linked to the incident, was seized by officers at the scene.

The victim, a 20-year-old man from Exeter had sustained serious injuries to his head which are not being treated as life-threatening. He was taken to hospital where he remains at this time.

Police inquires remain ongoing at this time. Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting CR/050504/20.
