Public rights of way, walking and cycling routes in Exmouth will soon be cleared to help residents with social distancing.

From Monday (May 18) Devon County Council will begin seasonal vegetation cutting on public rights of way across the county.

It is hoped keeping these key walking and cycling routes open and clear will assist with social distancing.

The county council's Cabinet Member for Highway Management Stuart Hughes said: "Our public rights of way, and our walking and cycling trails are being extremely well used throughout this pandemic as people look to get their daily exercise, so it's vital that our teams continue with necessary maintenance.

"The vegetation cutting will help provide as much space as possible on these routes to assist people with social distancing.

"Our wardens and contractors are working hard to keep our paths and trails safe and open, as well as helping landowners and farmers at this challenging time, and I would urge everyone to please be kind and courteous to them while they carry out this important work."

Local contractors are also following social distancing guidelines while undertaking the work.
