An Exmouth care campaigner is on a mission to get people to share their tables to tackle loneliness.
Carer, blogger and campaigner Caron Sprake is asking restaurants, cafes and pubs to display cards with the message, 'Happy To Share My Table', in an effort to bring people together and spark relationships.
The laminated cards, designed by Caron, have been funded by Recovery Devon, a local charity which supports people recovering from mental health problems.
Caron said: "I used to go into the Powder Monkey and Franklins and see lots of people sitting alone doing crosswords and playing on their phones.
"It left me wondering what can we do to bring these people together? It's not great for businesses either, having multiple tables occupied by sole diners.
"The people sitting in pubs and cafes on their own are probably there to escape the solitude of home and would most likely enjoy a chat."
Around 50,000 more cards are already being printed, this time with help from the Community Lottery.
The University of Exeter has also put together a research project to find out if the cards are working.
"I know these cards work, one lady I know with severe mental health issues found it very useful. It led her to forge new friendships." said Caron.
"These cards can be used by business people, lorry drivers, anybody who is on their own and would like some company.
"The ultimate goal is that more people share their tables in pubs, cafes and restaurants and that people feel comfortable meeting new people, hopefully leading to new connections and friendships."
The Happy To Share My Table cards are free to all businesses, if you would like one click on the red button below for more information.
