Blast from the past: Woolworths Exmouth

By Guest

29th Jul 2021 | Local News

Local history enthusiast Kevin Avery has shared his latest weekly 'blast from the past' picture.

Woolworths was in the news recently as a Hoaxer announced that it was to reopen next year.

As a keen Woolworth historian I can take you through a part of both Exmouth and Woolworth History.

The Exmouth store numbered 510 was opened at 37 The Parade in 1933.

Some of the images that I attach to this post are around about the time it first opened.

The image of the clowns shows five of the Staff in fancy dress at the Exmouth Hospital Carnival of 1936.

The Parade was badly bombed in approximately 1941.

Woolworths was fortunate enough to be reopened.

Regrettably the shop was closed totally in 2009 when the company surprisingly went bust.
