Motorists travelling from Topsham to Exeter are being urged to allow extra time for their journey over the next four weeks due to urgent repairs being carried out on an unstable wall in Station Road.
From Sunday (7 October) the city-bound lane of Station Road, Topsham, will be closed to enable essential repairs to get underway on a Grade 2 listed wall next to the road.
The structure is at risk of collapse and work is expected to take around four weeks to complete. During the initial stages of the scheme, the lane closure will coincide with ongoing utility connection work in nearby Exeter Road, Topsham. Temporary traffic lights which are currently in place near the Rugby Club will be manually controlled from Monday to Friday to help minimise disruption.
Not only does the wall need immediate attention, but the nature of the repair is also weather dependant due to the lime render which is required to be used on the listed structure. Any delay to the timing of the work could impact on the scheme and could result in a longer closure to protect the public from an unstable wall.
While the Station Road outbound lane from Topsham will remain open, the published diversion route for traffic heading to Exeter is via the A376 (Clyst St Mary and Sandygate Roundabout), A379 (Rydon Lane and Countess Wear Roundabout).
Further details of the diversion can be found on http://www.roadworks.org
