New homes to be built less than 10 minutes from Exmouth beach on the site of a former college have been given planning approval.

A unanimous vote by East Devon District Council will see the 2-acre former Rolle College, once part of the University of Plymouth, converted into housing.

Plans include converting a Grade II listed building named 'Eldin House' into four apartments.

In total, the site will see 33 new-build homes, 19 two- or three-bedroom apartments, and 10 houses.

Ed Lewis, Regional Director of the Exeter Region for Acorn Property Group, who bought the site, said: "We are delighted to have received planning consent and such enthusiastic support for our new homes scheme on Douglas Avenue in Exmouth, which is set to bring life to disused land.

"Given the site's location so close to Exmouth Beach, we anticipate high demand for these homes and we are excited for construction to begin this summer."
