Storm Eunice made landfall in the UK today (Friday 18 February) and has caused damage in Exmouth this morning.

The coming of Storm Eunice has also led to the closure of eight Exmouth schools and a warning from Great Western Railway not to travel by train.

In Littleham, an oak tree fell onto the green at the Magnolia Avenue Play Area. It was already dead when it fell.

In the Strand, the tail of the stegosaurus model has broken off and is lying on the ground.

Up from the station, a yacht was earlier seen to be adrift and reportedly travelled at least from the Imperial Recreation Ground. Named 'Lansur', it has now come to rest after high tide on the mud near the Exmouth Coach Park.

Weather warning

The Met Office's amber weather warning remains in place for Exmouth until 9pm today.

Wind gusts are at 57mph at the time of writing, and are expected to die down to 31mph by 9pm - but these are still strong winds.

The district council has warned the public to stay away from the seafront and has closed several flood gates.

Saturday also has a yellow warning issued, with gusts expected to reach up to 41mph.
