'Suspicious activity' reported in the Exmouth area - Police warning

By The Editor 29th Jul 2021

Police in Exmouth are warning residents keep their windows locked after suspicious activity was reported in the area.

Two people were seen in the grounds of a residential home in Woodbury acting suspiciously. They were challenged and made off in a silver vehicle.

Another incident, which police believe is connected, involved two vans seen driving around the area without vehicle registration plates.

The incident took place at 8.30pm on Thursday, September 17, on Cottles Lane.

Exmouth PCSO Colin Balch has these safety tips:

-Keep all windows locked – two out of three burglars get into a house through a window.

-Fit visible burglar alarms.

-If you have a back door or side door, fit a deadlock as many burglars enter through side or back doors to avoid the risk of being seen.

-Be alert to people loitering in a residential street. If it is no one you recognise, call the police.

-Do not leave car, door or window keys on view. Never leave keys within reach of a letterbox or a window.

-Move valuable items away from windows and put them out of sight.

-Never leave spare keys in an obvious place, such as under a flower pot or a doormat. Leave them with a trusted neighbour or relative instead.

-Register valuable property at immobilise.com or keep an inventory including description, serial number and photograph of each item.

-Do not keep large amounts of cash at home. If you have to do so, use a home safe that is stored out of sight.

-Use low wattage lighting outside your home that comes on automatically at dusk and goes off at dawn.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via [email protected] or by calling 101 quoting log number 1043 of 17/08/2020.

Information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
