Children and adults with special needs are being invited to try out a new Sensory Room in Exmouth.

Mrs Snuggles Sensory Room is the first of its kind in Exmouth, it is a specially designed room which combines a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses.

These can include lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects, aromas all within a safe environment that allows the person using it to explore and interact without risk.

Intriguing toys and equipment gently encourage your child to explore their environment without feeling frightened or overwhelmed.

Mrs Snuggles Sensory Room can be enjoyed by all ages for relaxation and therapeutic purposes and can be booked for private hire for SEN Adults, SEN, playgroups and nurseries or alternatively shared with our weekly Mrs Snuggles baby/ toddler sensory experience.

Mrs Snuggles, aka Lisa Hamer, said: "We have two rooms adjacent to each other, our White room and blackout room which both contain a wide variety of sensory stimulation such as a vibrating bed, black out tent, interactive light wall, infinity mirrors, bubble tube, full HD projector with a variety of animated projections, Sensory Garden, ball pool, fibre optic lights, tactile fidget boards and an intriguing selection of sensory toys.

"The Sensory Room fosters an atmosphere of relaxation, which is good for children and adult's emotional health. It gives them a chance to explore their feelings and to become interested in their environment.

"This calming environment is also a place for parents/carers to bond with their children, providing a restful and peaceful experience in today's busy and sometimes stressful lifestyles."

Mrs Snuggles Sensory experience has many benefits for children and adults with special needs as it creates a stimulating and yet calming atmosphere and among other things can help to improve hand to eye co-ordination and develop language skills.

All young children can benefit from using a sensory room to develop fundamental sensory skills needed in later life. Sensory rooms are particularly useful for people with sight or hearing problems and have been proven to be extremely valuable to people with autism.

Lisa added: "Every Friday afternoon, from 3.30pm until 5.30pm, we have our SEN Cafe experience, which is a chance for parents/careers and enablers to meet and an opportunity to visit our sensory room for 20 mins and enjoy a selection of intriguing sensory toys and a Lego experience at the front of the shop ."
