East Devon District Council is trialling the use of a converted electric waste collection vehicle.

The local authority was provided with the retrofitted lorry by RVS, a specialist vehicle converter, and has been using it on collection rounds.

The council said it would help it see if converting its own vehicles would be a viable option.

An East Devon District Council spokesperson said: "The former diesel-powered vehicle has been 'repowered' to transform it into an electric vehicle.

"The trial, with a converted vehicle, will help us assess if the future conversion of our diesel fleet of waste collection vehicles is a viable option.

"This trial is one of a series that we are carrying out to help us plan the low-emission fleet of the future, as we progress the decarbonisation of our operations."
