Exmouth Age Concern issues statement for Sidmouth residents who require services

By Hannah Corfield 29th Jul 2021

Following the recent closure of the Sidmouth Age Concern centre, Age Concern Exmouth and District reached out to residents there who may still require the services provided by the charity organisation.

In a statement released today (January 3), Age Concern Exmouth and District wrote: "Unfortunately, due to the challenging economic climate and slow uptake of our Home Support Service, the [Sidmouth] centre was unable to cover the costs of having a physical presence in the town.

"Although we widely publicise the fact, many people are still unaware that Age Concern Exmouth and District is not funded by government or grants.

"Its entire income is derived from donations from the public and income raised from the Home Support Service.

"We know that many local residents found the centre and its staff invaluable for signposting, information, advice and advocacy and for services such as the McClure's free will writing service.

"We intend to continue providing our services from our centre in Exmouth and all residents of Sidmouth are, of course, very welcome to visit us there for help and advice.

"McClure's will writing service is also available in the Exmouth Centre and also provides home visits on request."
