Exmouth: All of the sites earmarked for housing developments in the local area

East Devon District Council has earmarked a number of sites in the local area that could accommodate future housing development as part of its local plan for 2020-2040.

Sites listed as suitable for development are as follows:

Exmouth

First choice "preferred" sites

  • Douglas Gardens, an area of land off Douglas Avenue. Described as 'a good opportunity for development' of 44 homes;
  • Littleham Fields and land to the rear of Elm Lane. 45 homes;
  • Coles Field, Hulham Road. 59 homes and 1 hectare of employment land;
  • Land off Hulham Road. 75 homes and 1 hectare of employment land;
  • Land at Hulham Road. 54 homes.

Second choice sites

  • Land to the south of Littleham (near Salterton Road, Capel Lane). 410 homes and 1.6 hectares of employment and community land. Described as "a quite poor choice for allocation for development";
  • Land at St John's (near Dinan Way, Salterton Road). 150 homes and 0.6 hectares of employment land;
  • Land off Summer Lane (near Hulham Road). 14 homes;
  • Land at Courtland Cross (near Lympstone Manor). 100 homes and 0.4 hectares of employment land;
  • Land to the south of Courtlands Lane (near Lympstone Manor). 12 homes.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include Queen's Drive, a car parking area next to the estuary, land at the bottom of Bapton Lane, and more.

Lympstone

First choice "preferred" sites

  • Land at Meeting Lane. 131 homes and 0.52 hectares of employment land;
  • Land north-west of Strawberry Hill. 46 homes and 0.18 hectares of employment land;
  • Land off Grange Close. 6 homes;
  • Little Paddocks, 22 Underhill Crescent. 14 homes.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include Gulliford Farm, land at Strawberry Hill.

Sites where planning permission already given

  • Courtlands Lane (near Lympstone Manor);
  • Car park at Underhill Close;
  • Charles Court.

Budleigh Salterton

  • Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital. 20 homes.

Second choice sites

  •  Land at Barn Lane. 38 homes and 0.3 hectares of employment land;
  •  Land at Barn Lane. 44 homes and 0.3 hectares of employment land.

Sites not assessed

Sites not yet assessed include Brook Road car park, Lower Station car park, The Old Smithy on Dalditch Lane.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include The Old Orchard, Halse Hill, Little Knowle.

Woodbury

  • Land at Town Lane. 28 homes and 0.11 hectares of employment land;
  • Land of Broadway (Phase 2). 67 homes and 0.27 hectares of employment land;
  • Land at Gilbrook. 60 homes and 0.24 hectares of employment land;

Second choice sites

  • Ford Farm. 18 homes.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include cricket field, land off Globe Hill.

Sites where planning permission already given

  • Land off Town Lane.

Clyst St Mary

  • Bishops Court Lane. 35 homes and 0.14 hectares of employment land;
  • Land north of Sidmouth Road. 37 homes and 0.15 hectares of employment land.

Second choice sites

  • Land at Bishops Court Lane. 30 homes and 0.12 hectares of employment land.

Rejected sites

Rejected sites include land off Frog Lane, Bishops Court Lane.

Sites where planning permission already given

  • Areas off A376.

How can I share my opinion on the proposed sites?

The district council launched a public consultation this week for people to give their views on the local plan.

There will also be a number of public exhibitions held across East Devon from the end of November into December.
