An Exmouth bakery has unveiled 'The People's Pasty' after giving the general public the opportunity to create their own pasty flavours.

Earlier this year Moores Pasties in Exmouth asked customers to submit recipe ideas for a new pasty to be sold alongside the bakery's traditional flavours.

After receiving more than 400 flavour suggestions the team created a shortlist of eight potential pasties.

An online poll was setup on May 21 for people to vote on their favourite flavour. After two weeks and 307 votes Hunter's Chicken was announced the winner, with 27% of the vote.

The other flavours on the shortlist were: Pulled Pork Apple and Cider, Meatball Marinara and Cheese, Vegetable Chilli, Roasted Vegetable, Chicken Ham and Leek, Steak and Stilton and Slow Cooked Pork with Apple and Sage.

"I was given the idea by a friend," said bakery manager Daniel Moore.

"The competition really got people talking, we had people coming in for weeks asking which flavour was winning. I'm really pleased by how many people submitted flavours and how many people voted.

"Since we've launched the Hunter's Chicken Pasty business has gone through the roof. Everyone wants to try them, we've been struggling to keep up with demand."

Since the pasty, described as having 'a sweet and smoky flavour', went on sale on Monday more than 1,300 have been sold.

Hunter's Chicken was suggested by Sarah Croft, who received two jumbo versions of her creation as a prize.

Daniel said: "The aim was to engage more with our customers and give them the opportunity to create their own pasty. People really did engage with it and it was great to open our doors to the community."

He added: "I would like to thank everyone for getting involved. Most of the suggestions were very well thought out and interesting."
