If you live in Exmouth or the surrounding area you are served by three different local councils, each responsible for different areas and services.

As an Exmouth resident you may find working out which council is responsible for which services quite confusing.

Exmouth Nub News has put together this handy guide to help you know which council to go to if you need help or advice.

Exmouth Town Council covers the areas of Exmouth Town, Brixington, Halsdon, Littleham and Withycombe. According to the town council website Exmouth Town Council is responsible for:

-Allotments

-Bus Shelters

-Gorfin Hall

-Jubilee Clock Tower

-Local Grants

-Magnolia Kiosk

-Consultation on Neighbourhood Planning

East Devon District Council (EDDC) covers the district council area of south eastern Devon and is

responsible for services including:

- Beaches

- Building Control

- Business and Investment

- Business Rates collections (set by Central Government)

- Bus shelters

- Car Parks

- Cemeteries

- Coastal Protection

- Community Safety

- Countryside

- Council Tax collections (set by Central Government)

- Dog Bins (STC contributes to the emptying of some)

- Electoral Registration and Elections

- Emergency Planning

- Environmental Health

- Housing

- Licensing

- Rubbish collections

- Recycling collections

- some play areas and play equipment

- Planning applications

- Public Toilets (STC contributes to keeping toilets open all year)

Devon County Council (DCC) is responsible for services across the whole of the Devon (excluding,

Plymouth and Torbay), including:

- Blue Badges for disabled parking

- Bus Passes (National scheme only)

- Dangerous Structures and walls

- Child Protection

- Citizenship

- Cycleways

- Education

- Fire and public safety

- Grass Verges (not highway visibility splays)

- Libraries

- Pavements

- Residential Homes

- Roads

- Planning (planning issues relating to mineral, waste and County Council developments)

- Public Transport

- Traffic Management

- Street Lighting

- Social care

- Trading standards

- Waste management

- Youth Services
