Exmouth: Fairlynch Museum, Budleigh Salterton reopens today

By Will Goddard 29th Jul 2021

The Fairlynch Museum in Budleigh Salterton, located here, has reopened today (Tuesday 20 July) for the first time since 2019.

It has reportedly received advice from East Devon's Covid Compliance team on how to make the venue as safe as possible for staff and visitors.

After a successful recruitment campaign for new volunteer stewards, the museum has extended its opening hours, and will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 11.30am to 4.30pm.

What can I expect to see?

This year, the museum has a number of interesting exhibitions:

- The Croquet Club 150 exhibition

- The VEDay 75 exhibition

- An exhibition of paintings and writings to complement friend of Fairlynch Sarah Bussy's new book 'Joyce Dennys and Budleigh Salterton', which will be launched at the Literary Festival in September

- NEW: A model of Her Majesty's Ship Ark Royal, Flagship of the English Fleet that defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588. Originally named Ark Raleigh, she was built at Deptford for Sir Walter in 1587 by master shipwright Richard Chapman and was later purchased by the Crown for £5,000. The 1:144 scale model was built by friend of Fairlynch Patrick Camp for display in the Sir Walter Raleigh Room.
