Exmouth Stroke Survivors Club is set to hold an event this month to raise funds for its activities.

Founded in 2009, the club meets weekly at Bidmead Community Centre and is a community group for people who have had a stroke, or family members and carers of those who have had a stroke, to share experiences and make friends.

It also puts on regular special events and activities for its members.

Club chairman Steve said: "The club holds regular sessions, including arts and crafts on a Monday and our main club session on Wednesday mornings.

"These include guest speakers, singers, music, therapy, games, art and loads more. All money raised is spent directly on the club members.

"Many people are being discharged from hospital too soon. The demands are high so the stroke team needs to see you at home. Some people don't go home, but are put into nursing homes when they would rather be at home. Some people are just left to their own devices.

"At Exmouth Stroke Survivors Club we believe everyone has a right to high quality of care and that stroke survivors should be given support when leaving hospital.

"We also have a food hub where stroke survivors and their families can get advice on cooking and using equipment to eat and drink.

"All money raised will go to all the members. Come along and join us on the night."

The event will take place on Saturday 24 June at 8pm at the Railway Club in Exmouth.
