Exmouth: Woman raises over £300 by asking for RNLI donations for 100th birthday
A woman who celebrated her 100th birthday this year has raised £310 for Exmouth RNLI by asking relatives and friends for donations to the charity instead of gifts for herself.
Centenarian Winifred Kerslake, from Tiverton, is reportedly a long-time RNLI supporter and thinks the organisation is a "wonderful charity" and regularly watches TV programs about the lifesavers, including Saving Lives at Sea.
Chair of Exmouth RNLI Fundraising Team Des White visited Winifred this week and presented her with a special thank-you certificate.
He said: "It was wonderful to meet Winifred and hear about her keen interest in the RNLI and to congratulate her on her 100th birthday, for which she received a special birthday card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
"On behalf of all the volunteers at Exmouth RNLI I would like to thank her very much for thinking of us in this way.
"Every penny of her kind and generous donation to our local lifesavers will be used for essential training and equipment for the volunteer Exmouth Lifeboat crews to enable them to continue their work saving lives at sea."
