A major refurb at an Exmouth community centre will make a world of difference to those who need it - offering emotional support, food parcels and more.
The Open Door Centre, in Church Street, has now been going for nearly 25 years running various projects helping the homeless and those who need help in a crisis.
The charity reopened this week after closing, in September and October, for a full refit and new-look cafe area, ready to carrying on supporting Exmouth when it needs it most.
During the first lockdown, the centre's team delivered 1,500 food parcels and made more than 500 phone calls providing support and informal signposting information - helping people with everything from finical and housing issues to unemployment and domestic abuse.
This lockdown will be no different - the cafe will continue to stay open for a takeaway service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 10am to 2pm, selling food and drink.
It will also be running its 1-1 service offering practical support, advice and counselling for those in a crisis. The centre will also be continuing to operate its ICE Project - giving young people in Exmouth any extra support they need. Tim Chappell, deputy projects director at Open Door Exmouth, said: "A lot of our customers are regulars. "It is just good to see those faces every day, to be able to offer that smile and few minutes of our time can make a big difference to people." Tim wants to thank the many supporters who continue to donate financially and in kind through gifts of clothing and sleeping bags during these challenging times. Your support is truly valued by those who need it most. Email [email protected] or call 01395 224218 to get in touch with the centre. Visit the charity's website HERE.
