Firefighters are investigating what caused a severe fire at an Exmouth tea room in the early hours of this morning.

Both of Exmouth's fire crews, a crew from Middlemoor and and aerial ladder from Danes Castle were sent to the scene on Alexandra Terrace at around 3.10am today.

When firefighters arrived they were confronted with a more serious fire than they had anticipated and called for further assistance.

Fire engines from Topsham, Sidmouth, a Command Support Unit from Honiton and a Support Unit from Bovey Tracey were sent to help tackle the blaze.

It was not until 5.15am today that fire crews confirmed that the fire had been extinguished. Firefighters are now investigating the cause of the fire.
