Firefighters were called out to reports of smoke coming from a top floor flat in Exmouth just before 9.40am on Monday (13 February).

Everyone was able to evacuate the building but a dog had to be rescued.

The kitchen of the property has been 10 per cent damaged by fire and 40 per cent by smoke.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire Control received calls reporting that smoke was issuing out of a top floor flat so mobilised two fire engines.

"Following a second call from scene with potential people reported inside the building Fire Control mobilised another fire engine.

"Crews soon confirmed that all persons were free and clear of the building, but one dog had been rescued by fire service personnel."
