A fresh planning application to demolish former Exmouth pub The Beacon Vaults and build a house in its place has been submitted for approval to East Devon District Council.

The proposed development would see a three-storey "Georgian" town house constructed, with materials "chosen based on the surrounding buildings".

It would have off-street parking, an electric car charge point and home office space.

A previous application made last year to demolish the Beacon Hill establishment and build two houses was withdrawn over concerns for "the heritage impact of the proposal in the conservation area and in relation to the adjacent listed buildings".

According to the planning documents, The Beacon Vaults itself is not a listed property, and the current building was "developed in around 1930 with a mock-Tudor façade and significant non-traditional alterations".

Its demolition is being sought as it is considered "not commercially viable to retain and renovate" due to "significant" structural defects.

The application is awaiting a decision from the district council.
