Exmouth in Bloom has won a gold award at the 2023 Britain in Bloom UK Finals.

Newcastle-under-Lyme was the overall winner, and several other towns, villages and cities won accolades in various categories.

In the 'Coastal' category, the joint winners were East Haven Together in Scotland and Lytham in Bloom, and Exmouth was given a gold award alongside Llandudno in Bloom in Wales and the Parish of St Brelade in Jersey.

Exmouth's success follows another award of gold and the town's recognition as the 'Champion of Champions' at this year's South West in Bloom Awards.

Exmouth in Bloom, East Devon District Council and Exmouth Town Council's combined efforts were marked highly in all three judging categories of horticulture, environment, and community.

Exmouth in Bloom's co-ordinated colour theme throughout the town, and EDDC's Parks and Gardens team's sustainable planting were highlighted and praised.

Chair of Exmouth in Bloom Gerry Bassett said: "Exmouth in Bloom has worked hard over the last two years to bring our local councils together to raise horticultural standards throughout the town and are pleased to have been the catalyst for the exceptional teamwork that has been evident in this year's entry."

Councillor Geoff Jung (Lib Dem, Woodbury and Lympstone) said: "This fantastic team of volunteers work closely with EDDC's StreetScene staff and ETC to make Exmouth the best town in the South West for its fabulous floral displays and wonderful green spaces.

"Exmouth in Bloom volunteers do amazing work around the town, working efficiently and collectively together with the two councils' staff on many projects, from designing colourful planting schemes, to sourcing plants, installing baskets and troughs, purchasing new planters, organising the clearance of beds, replanting beds and the important watering and maintenance. A well earnt joint effort to all!"
