A sculpture has appeared where Exmouth's Rusty Pole once stood on The Maer.

The sewage vent pipe had a cult following as a joke tourist attraction before it was removed in April.

The artwork, set up anonymously, has been made to look like the Rusty Pole and features 'flowers' made of nuts and washers and a sign reading "regrowth".

Mike Menhenitt of the Rusty Pole Society of Exmouth said: "The other day the rusty sculpture mysteriously appeared at the site of the Rusty Pole on The Maer.

"It was put there anonymously and is indeed a fitting tribute to the iconic Rusty Pole that had stood on the site since 1909.

"The Rusty Pole Society and the people of Exmouth would like to thank the artist, whoever you are for this fitting tribute that we hope will stand for another hundred plus years."

The Rusty Pole removal saga was featured on BBC panel show Have I Got News For You earlier this year.
