East Devon District Council says some recycling and waste collections will not be able to take place today (Monday 28 June) due to staff shortages - but has said to leave it at its usual collection point, and it hopes the waste can be collected later in the week.

Rubbish collections, street cleaning, litter bin emptying and grass cutting are all under strain in East Devon lately, as the district council tries to cope with staff shortages and extremely high demand.

East Devon District Council says the large number of visitors to public areas, beaches and green spaces is putting extra pressure on its cleaning and maintenance teams.

The council says the problems are being exacerbated by similar pressures on its recycling and waste contractor, Suez, and this has led to some household waste not being collected on the scheduled day.

Local residents are being asked to report late collections or public space maintenance issues through its website or the EDDC app.

Rubbish that isn't collected should be left out for the following day.
