An Exmouth fire crew responded to a report of an injured kite surfer who had become stranded on a sandbank near Budleigh Salterton and was surrounded by water after 4pm yesterday (23 May).

Together with another crew from Seaton and supporting specialist officers, firefighters in water rescue equipment and flood suits saw that the kite surfer's legs were very swollen and possibly broken.

Using a stretcher, a ladder, and general purpose line, the crews rescued the kite surfer and handed him over to the ambulance service to be taken to hospital.
