NCI Exmouth has passed an annual assessment meaning it can continue to work with emergency services.

Part of the National Coastwatch Institution, the volunteer coastwatch service works with HM Coastguard and the RNLI by keeping watch over the estuary and Exmouth beach every day of the year.

An NCI Exmouth spokesperson said: "Each year Exmouth NCI station has an annual Declared Facility Status assessment that ensures it operates to the high standards required by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and so it can play a part in the UK Search and Rescue services.

"This involves looking at our policies and procedures, our facilities, and meeting and talking to watchkeepers.

"Part of the assessment includes an exercise with the RNLI, to locate a casualty in the waters and guide the lifeboat to them.

"A successful day, meaning we can operate our services for another year."
