The sleepy town of Budleigh Salterton will be doing something a little different this week.

National awarding winning theatre company – The Salterton Drama Club – will be bringing the classic horror tale which inspired writers such as Stephen King to the stage in a live stage show.

The Salterton Drama Club's production of The Haunting of Hill House will be shown at The Salterton Playhouse over six performances between Monday, March 2, and Saturday, March 7.

The show's director, Penelope Dawn Hill, said: "Horror films have always been a guilty pleasure of mine and I was keen to direct a convincing horror live on stage that was able to build suspense and feel intimate and intense. We are hoping to give everyone a good scare as they get sucked into the story – all for fun of course.

"The Salterton Drama Club has been a national semi-finalist or quarter finalist in the All England Theatre Festival for three years running. The quality of productions we put together is often compared to that of professionals, and we have a stellar cast on the stage.

"The technical crew have worked tirelessly as have the amazing set building team in creating Hill House. So why not come and see a professional level production for the bargain price of £10 per person, in Budleigh Salterton. You really wouldn't want to miss this one!"

The Haunting of Hill House is a chilling and mystifying study in the mounting terror in which a small group of psychically receptive people are brought together to face in Hill House, a brooding, mid-Victorian mansion known as a place of evil and ill will.

Led by the learned Dr Montague, who is conducting research into supernatural phenomena, the visitors have come to probe the secrets of the old house and draw forth the mysterious powers which it is alleged to possess - powers which have brought madness and death to those who have lived there in the past.

The show opens on Monday night and will be running all week.

Tickets cost £10 per person, and are available by clicking the red button below.
