The new landlord of The Globe Inn in Lympstone has announced that he will leave just one year after taking on the tenancy over what he described as the "crippling" economics of running a small pub.

Ray Ribeiro, from Brighton, took over the establishment in December 2021.

Negotiations for a new landlord are reportedly underway and it is hoped patrons will see "little disruption".

He said in a statement: "Unfortunately Lympstone, the rumours are true and I will be leaving the tenancy of the Globe at the end of the year.

"Truth is the economics of running a small pub these days are crippling.

"However, it has been the most amazing privilege and pleasure to have taken part in the Lympstone story and to have met you all.

"Negotiations are ongoing for a new landlord but I hope that there will be seamless continuity and little disruption going forward.

"I can't thank you all enough for your support, encouragement, guidance and, above all, laughter in the past year. It's been a hell of a ride.

"For now, it's business as usual, so make sure you book yourselves in this month and come say goodbye. I'd love to see you all at least one more time before I go. Or just come in and enjoy any of our draught beers at £4.50 per pint! Yes, £4.50 per pint!! I can't believe I'm even writing that price . . ."

The Globe Inn can be found on The Strand in Lympstone and here on Google Maps.
