Up Close: Meet the new owner of Lympstone's The Globe Inn

The Globe Inn in Lympstone now has a new owner - and he's made a few changes.
Ray Ribeiro, from Brighton, took over the pub three months ago in December 2021. He has redecorated and refurbished the centuries-old pub but has kept many of its original features to be sensitive to its heritage.
It will offer cafe-style food during the day, and will transform into a pub at night. It's also dog-friendly and has a TV screen for watching sport, and is a monthly music venue.
'Old and new in harmony'
Outside, the pub has a new white-and-black sign and has been repainted in the same colour.
Inside, the floor has been stripped, sanded and re-varnished. The walls have been painted light and dark green, and there are new sofas, rugs, and fairy lights.
The bar stools now have dark green covers, and new wrought-iron footrests made by a local ironmonger now sit beneath the bar.
Many original features, including the oars and fishing rods hanging overhead, have been kept.
Ray told Nub News: "I've tried to be sensitive to what's here, I didn't want to completely change the character of the place.
"I always wanted to go for old and new in harmony. I always get bowled over by [some of the memories people have of the pub]. Some people come in and say 'we had our 60th wedding anniversary here' or 'I had my first drink here when I was a kid'. Almost everybody in town has worked here at some point.
"I've heard those stories so many times - it's quite a responsibility to have a place like this, with everyone's memories so wrapped up in it. But they seem to like what we're doing so far."
Cafe by day, pub by night - with tapas
The pub will offer cafe-style food including sandwiches, cakes, and pastries during the day from Easter, and currently has a changing tapas menu on offer in the evenings and all day at weekends.
Its seafood is sourced from a local fisherman in Lympstone, and also from Exmouth.
Ray said: "We're planning on doing 'global' flavours, so the tapas for a month could be Thai-influenced, or Italian, small plates done in the same way.
"What I would like to add is more vegetable dishes that show off the produce around here. Obviously asparagus season is coming very soon; just let the vegetables speak for themselves."
The current tapas menu includes 'Dressed Devon Crab with fresh chilli and lime on bruschetta', 'BBQ glazed pork belly bites with sour cream and chive dip', and 'Sautéed Devon woodland mushrooms in garlic and paprika'. Click here to see it for yourself.
The Globe Inn can be found in Lympstone here on the Exe Estuary Trail.
