Person dies after being hit by train between Exeter and Exmouth

A person was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train at Digby and Sowton on the railway line between Exeter and Exmouth on Sunday (22 January).

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Police were called to the incident at 2.43pm and trains were disrupted until around 5pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Digby and Sowton at 2.43pm on 22 January following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
