Police investigate attempted robbery at Exmouth Co-op

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and being in possession of a knife after an incident at Littleham Cross Co-op on Sunday evening (28 May).

A man reportedly entered the shop just before 9.20pm claiming to have a weapon and demanding money from the till.

He was then detained by two male members of the public. Nothing was stolen and the members of the public were not hurt.

A man in his 30s was arrested, and taken to hospital due to a pre-existing medical condition. He is still there and has been bailed until 23 June.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating an attempted robbery at an Exmouth shop on Sunday (28 May).

"A man entered the Co-op in Littleham just before 9.20pm claiming to be in possession of a weapon and demanding money from the till.

"The suspect was detained by two male members of the public.

"Nothing was stolen in the incident and the members of the public were unharmed.

"A man in his 30s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and being in possession of a knife. He was taken to hospital due to a pre-existing medical condition where he remains.

"He has been bailed until 23 June."
