There was a heart-warming moment on a cold January afternoon when a man surprised his girlfriend with a marriage proposal on Exmouth's Pirate Cove.

Andy Bennett had arranged to meet Hollie Corrick at the beach on Saturday afternoon (January 30).

When she got to the walkway overlooking the beach, she saw 'Will you marry me?' written in giant letters in the sand, and Andy then got down on one knee to pop the question.

Hollie said 'yes' and Andy rushed up to the walkway and hugged her – prompting cheers from passers-by.

The whole romantic scene was filmed by Brynette Churchward, who happened to be at the beach with friends, and pulled out her phone to capture it.

She shared the video on Facebook in the hope that Hollie and Andy would see it and be able to keep it as a memento.

Bynette told Exmouth Nub News: "I thought it was wonderful and was so pleased to witness it.

"I'm really glad I filmed it, as the couple have managed to save the video for themselves, for posterity.

"Then I was worried after I put it on Facebook, as I didn't have the couple's permission, but obviously they are really pleased I did.

" I don't know the couple but wish them all best for their future together.

"So pleased I was a part of their experience, along with all the other passers-by. It brightened my day so much, was a bit of sunshine on a dull cold day."
