UK over-50s table football champion considers starting club in Exmouth

By Will Goddard 5th Feb 2022

Exmouth resident and UK over-50s table football champion David Oates is considering starting a club in the town.

David won his title on 12 December last year at the United Kingdom Championships held at the Hive Stadium in Barnet, London.

He is set to represent Great Britain in the over-50s singles category at the ITSF (International Table Soccer Federation) World Cup in Nantes, France at the end of June this year.

He started playing in 1975, and has since competed in various UK and world championships and international events, and has been the UK doubles champion twice - the first time being in 1976/77.

David's son James has also been in the GB team and was the GB mens team coach for the last ITSF World Cup in 2019.

The club

David is looking for a place to practice and might hold a weekly club night for people who are interested.

He said: "Just waiting for Covid to drop a bit, then looking at what opportunities there may be coming up for somewhere to put my table to practice whenever I want to and perhaps hold a weekly 'club night' for interested players who want to learn more or just play for fun or maybe even arrange the odd small regional tournament depending on what sort of space is available etc.

"Many pubs/clubs etc with space like function rooms hold them occasionally to make money from the food and drink sales from the contestants."

If you're interested, you can get in touch with David via email at [email protected].
