Coastguard rescue teams were scrambled to the Duck Pond at King George V Recreation Ground in Exmouth this evening after reports of an '8 to 10ft' tuna or dolphin possibly stranded in shallow water.
Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Beer Coastguard Rescue Team and representatives from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue made their way to the area at around 6.08pm today (September 16).
A further report from the Exe Water Taxi suggested it was 'a significant tuna which had followed stand up paddleboarders into the area'.
When rescue teams arrived they spoke to some of the paddleboarders who had spotted what is believed to be a Bluefin Tuna, which they estimated to be around '8 to 10ft' in length.
A spokesperson for Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "After a short localised search, nothing was seen and we were stood down with no further action required.
"If you do see dolphins, Porpoises or small whales stranded anywhere along the coast, always 999 and ask for Coastguard."
