Restrictions on water sports on the Exe Estuary have been lifted today following an announcement from the Exeter Port Authority.

From today (Wednesday, May 13) kayaks, wind-surfers, kiteboards, fishing from shore, paddleboards and sailing dinghies will be allowed in the Exe Estuary for recreational purposes, on the grounds of exercising outdoors.

Recreational use of PWCs, motorboats, sailing vessels and visiting vessels are still prohibited on the Exe Estuary as port authorities await further guidance from the Department of Transport.

Exeter Port Authority harbour master Grahame Forshaw said: "Port users are reminded to ensure that equipment is of a sufficient standard and are used with proper conduct.

"By using the estuary you are increasing the possibility of added strain to the RNLI, please think about this before undertaking your exercise. Port users must continue to follow social distancing guidance."
