Work has begun on a mural that will be a key feature of Exmouth's new sensory garden.
The garden is a joint project between Exmouth Art Group and Exmouth in Bloom, and was inspired by Gillie Newcombe of Exmouth Art Group.
East Devon District Council granted permission for it to be created in part of the Pavilion Gardens, with plants offering year-round interest through colour, fragrance and touch.
There will be benches and picnic tables, along with raised planters to enable wheelchair users to get close to the sensory plants.
The mural will be installed along the Pavilion Theatre boundary and will consist of 13 panels, each of them eight feet high, depicting a meadow with wildlife found in the Exmouth area. One of the panels will have a mirror effect, and there will be a bench and a pergola arch.
A wildflower border will be sown in front of the mural, so that real plants will blend in with the painted meadow.
The project is expected to take until the spring to complete.
Along with Exmouth In Bloom and the Exmouth Art Group, it has been supported financially by the town's Chamber of Commerce, the Town Team and Jewson Builders' Merchants. Any other businesses that would like to get involved are asked to email [email protected]
