Great Western Railway has recalled a number of its Hitachi 800 trains for precautionary inspections after cracks were reportedly found on more than one of the trains.

This means that many long-distance journeys, such as the lines running between London, Cardiff, Bristol, and Penzance, have been cancelled.

A specialist rescue team from Exmouth was sent to a report of a person in the brook next to Dawlish railway station yesterday (12 May) soon after 9pm.

Together with one fire engine from Dawlish and one from Teignmouth, the crews were unable to locate the person initially, but then after searching upstream and downstream they found them on the bank and helped them onto dry land.
